Our team was responsible for construction administration of this NDDOT Junction ND 23 & 8 Roundabout, HMA, concrete pavement and lighting project located in Mountrail County, ND. The project was a portion of a Tied Project consisting of 4 individual improvement in the Williston District.  The Roundabout construction consisted of four phases of work with the first step to construct a temporary bypass intersection at the Junction of ND 23 and ND 8.  Second phase constructing the roundabout.  Third phase was constructing the excluded areas of the temporary bypass.  The final phase was removing the temporary bypass and completing the HMA connections and chip seal. This roundabout consisted of 10,000 sy of 9.5" concrete pavement, new lighting improvements around the roundabout, grading improvements and additional HMA improvements. 

NDDOT Hwy 2/83 roundabout

NEW TOWN, NORTH DAKOTA

Ackerman-Estvold was selected by the NDDOT to complete the construction engineering on this multiple structure replacement project located on US 2/52 about 10 miles northwest of Minot, ND. Three existing structural steel pipes were replaced with precast box culverts. The two replacement culverts crossing US 2 consisted of double 12’ x 12’ box culverts in lengths of  314 LF and 250 LF. A third box culvert consisted of a 118 LF single 13’ x 12’ box culvert crossing Ward County Road 10. The project was constructed in phases consisting of head-to-head traffic while the box culverts were removed and replaced one-half at a time. The project included temporary crossovers, temporary shoring, culvert replacement, roadway restoration, signing, and pavement marking. Ackerman-Estvold’s responsibilities including project management and inspection; project record keeping through NDDOT’s CARS including daily diaries, pay quantity entries and estimates, change orders, work zone status, and weekly progress reports; temporary traffic control layout and monitoring; and material testing coordination. The project was completed in 2024 at a cost of $7.1 million.

nddot hwy 2/52 structure replacment

MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA

Ackerman-Estvold was selected by the North Dakota Department of Transportation to complete the construction engineering for this selective hot mix asphalt (HMA) mill and overlay and bridge deck overlay on US 83 from 20Ave SW in Minot to the south urban limits. The selective HMA mill and overlay targets locations most in need of repair, which are areas of excessive pavement rutting. Patching was completed along this 1.25 mile stretch of roadway along with ADA improvements to the existing sidewalk and curb ramps on 31Ave SW. The bridge deck overlay included a 1.5 inch concrete overlay of the existing 250’ by 90’ bridge on US Hwy 83 over US Hwy 2/52. Additional repairs to the bridge included full depth concrete deck repair, w-beam guardrail retrofit, replacement of the approach slabs, and approach slab lip repair.

 

Ackerman-Estvold’s construction team was responsible for overall project management and coordination of the construction of this project. Responsibilities included site inspection, daily project documentation, construction layout, processing change orders and pay estimates through NDDOT’s CARS program, and final records. Responsibilities unique to the bridge deck overlay included sounding of the deck to determine limits of repair, field modifications to the traffic control to account for the different phases of work and the multiple on and off ramps at the bridge ends, and setting profile of the bridge for the overlay. The project was completed in 2016 at a construction cost of $1.6 million.
