Bread of Life Lutheran Church Addition is an expansion to the churches existing facility. The current facility is a 6,797 square foot facility with a worship space, multi-use room, and supporting offices and classrooms of wood-frame construction. The current project adds 5,228 square feet to the facility with a large multi-purpose room, meeting room, restrooms, and large narthex of similar construction materials to the original.
The project is a unique approach where the church partnered with an entity called Mission Builders, affiliated with the denomination. Mission Builders is managing the project in the same capacity as a construction manager. Our firm bid the project out in 18 separate bid categories and executed those contracts separately.
Under this approach the total of executed contracts is approximately $1,140,000 with owner-provided items costing roughly $75,000, putting total construction cost at $1,215,000. The project broke ground in Spring of 2018 and was completed in 2019.
BREAD OF LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH ADDITION & REMODEL
BREAD OF LIFE LUTHERAN CHURCH
MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA
The restoration of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church was a labor of love and dedication to preserving both architectural heritage and the spiritual heart of the community. St Leos is a visual landmark in the city. Originally built in 1908 with distinctive Gothic features as the traditional cruciform plan with a large apse, a large arched main entry, and two asymmetric steeples with tall pointed spires. The first phase of restoration was the envelope of the building, including replacement of roofing and extensive masonry restoration and the second phase and extensive structural upgrade in the basement and main floor with addition of new facilities, like restrooms and a redesigned entrance and confessional area, reflects a thoughtful approach to enhancing the functionality of the space while maintaining its sacred character, ultimately reinforced by the final phase of a complete refinishing of the interiors of the church, including all finishes, liturgical art, and appointments. The attention to detail in replicating the original patterns and design elements, from the marble floors to the stenciling on the walls, underscores a commitment to authenticity and historical accuracy. Ultimately, the restored St. Leo serves not only as a place of worship but also as a symbol of continuity and resilience, anchoring the Catholic faith in Minot for generations to come. Its completion marks a milestone in the ongoing story of faith, community, and cultural heritage in the area.

ST. LEO THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH
MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA
The existing church was built in 1949 in a neo-gothic style with a small addition in the 1980’s. The original building was 4,128 sq. ft. per floor with the main sanctuary upstairs and the fellowship hall and auxiliary spaces in the basement. The 1980’s vintage lift was worn out and often got stuck, preventing many members from attending fellowship activities. The church was also growing along with the community with new pressures on all its services, especially the food pantry and children’s activities. A new space was needed to reconnect the fellowship, presenting a welcoming space for new and old members alike.
The new addition added 5,928 sq. ft. to each level, creating a new fellowship hall that opens into the sanctuary. The new fellowship hall and kitchen are at the center of the design. The kitchen’s stained glass windows were inspired by Jesus feeding the 5,000. Pastor’s offices, a quilting room, music room, and accessible comfort facilities complete the main floor. A new elevator connects to the new basement classrooms and food pantry.
The exterior design harmonizes with the existing exterior style, creating a seamless appearance between the existing and new. The new fellowship hall design is warmer and lighter, contrasting with the contemplative traditional sanctuary setting without conflict.
